News Update 04/2017 – Barcamp and General Assembly April

Dear members and supporters,

at this year’s Barcamp and General Assembly, we reviewed the past year and discussed the challenges posed to us by the new ‘Verwertungsgesellschaftengesetz ‘ (German collecting societies law), which now manifests itself in certain demands by the authority for appoval of collecting societies ‘DPMA’.

Barcamp

The Barcamp took the form of a plenary session in which we debated the strategy for the approval as a collecting society. The main focus was on the role of legal persons and the obvious need to give them the right to vote at general assemblies (keyword ‘publishers’). As a result, the Barcamp plenum clearly stood up for a C3S as a collecting society of composers and authors.

General Assembly

The General Assembly on the following day confirmed the barcamp’s results by and large and encouraged the Board of Directors not to accept any compromises that differ from C3S’ basic convictions. Under this precondition, the approval procedure is to be continued in its present form.

Change of Personnel

In addition to the ratification of the actions of the Board of Directors and the Management Board, further results of the General Assembly are that members of the Board of Directors, Meinhard Starostik and Florian Posdziech, are leaving and Elmar Schuck and Thomas Mielke take over their positions. We would like to thank the outgoing Board members for their work and wish the newcomers all the best.
